MOTHERS' UNION.

Mrs E. Dawick Mas in' the chair at the monthly mectiug of tho All Saints' branch of the Mothers' Union on Wednesday. A service was held in the Lady Chapel by Rev. H. "Wilson. A welcome was extended to Mrs Dawick on her return to the meeting by Mrs Metcalfe. Deaconess Heni Park wrote about a card she had promised to give and recalled her visit to Palmerston North with pleasure. Messages of thanks were received from jMrs Ashcroft and Miss P. llarman for kind expressions in their illnesses. Mrs Dawick announced that tho next meeting would take the form of an admission service. Mrs Bridcn Jones gave the report of the National Council of Women, referring to the visit of the Dominion president (Mrs D. Mcintosh) and remits about enforcing the laws against the sale of liquor after hours, and about gambling for patriotic funds. A motion commending the City Council on the decision to open its meetings with prayer was proposed by Mrs Eekersley and seconded by Mrs Merton. Mrs Oppatt gave two violin solos, accompanied by Mrs Bigham. The Mothers' Union choir gave two items. Hospital visitors appointed were Mesdames A. Ax, Tait, T. Smith and Pritchard. Mrs Dawick expressed the thanks of tho meeting to the artists. Mr Wilson read a letter from Mrs Holland, wife of the Bishop of Wellington, conveying her best wishes to the branch on attaining its majority, and spoke of tho death a few months ago of Mrs Hunt, widow of a past, vicar of this parish. _ Mr Wilson gave a talk on the missionary work in the Episcopal Church in America. This Church, he said, had j great influence. It belonged to the j Anglican Communion and sent its bishops to the Lambeth Conference. At a convention held in Kansas City. in | 1940 Bishop Noel Hudson, representative of the Church of England was invited to advise on the needs of the Church of England's missionary dioceses in tho present crisis. The convention vote the sum of ,'300,000 dollars for England's missionary work, besides a contribution from the Women's Auxiliary. Still more important, they promised to think out as a Church tho ways in which they could co-operate with the English missionary effort. Bishop Hudson made a tour of tho United States, cementing this feeling of co-operation, and then went to Canada, where the Church had been faring badly as the result of droughts in the wheat belts. The Canadian Church had decided not to aect-pt any further help from the Society for the Propagaatiou of the Gospel so as to release that money for greater needs. These were typical of the practical sympathy and love that had been extended to the Church in England since tho war started, emphasising our Lord's promise to he always with His Church. A vote of thanks was proposed by Mrs Hunt. The hostesses were Mesdames Martin (convener), MeCulloch, Carruthers, Merton, Pullar and Kennedy. _ Mrs Dawick presented Mr Wilson with a collection of articles brought by members for the pantry in the new clergy house, and was thanked by Mr Wilson.
