MENINGITIS CASE.

IN NGARUAWAHIA CAMP

(Press Assn.,) WELLINGTON, July 17. ''l regret to say that a case of cerebro-spinal meningitis has occurred in the Ngaruawahia Camp," said the Minister ol Defence (Hon. E. Jones) to-day. "'The patient has been admitted to the Waikato Hospual. In view of the nature of the case instructions bave been given that the camp is to he closed until after the weekend. The general health of the men in this camp has been very good and the sick rate has been the lowest of any of the camps in the northern district.

"It is pleasing to be able to saythat there are jio indications of any other cases at present and that therefore there is no cr.use for alarm. The public can rest assured that every possible precaution will be taken to see that the disease does not extend and consequently in the meantime in the interests of the health of the men and ol the general public no leave will bo granted till the medical authorities are satisfied everything is safe."

Mumps and measles are prevalent among the- Territorials encamped at Ngaruawahia and Cambridge and large numbers have been transferred to the Waikato Hospital, says a northern report. The hospital is overcrowded. Extra room has been provided by taking over the domestic quarters.
