On Friday night the public again showed enthusiasm by giving a fitting farewell 10 Pilot-Officer S. 11. (Peter) Gunniug. Dancing and items occupied the time, music being generously supplied by Mrs Edmonds and Miss D. C'.cul (Lovin). Recitations were contributed by Mr Sinclair and Clarico Sin-cl-air. Mr J. T. Bovis was in charge and before he called on the president of tlio U.S.A. (Mr C. Guerin) to speak, a choir of boys and girls from the local school sang the song "Lords of the Air," which was most appropriate as Pilot-Officer Gunning is an ex-pupil ot the school. Mr Guerin, in presenting the guest of honour with a pocket wallet, referred to h:a sterling character and hoped that when he was away 1»! would eouiiiuinicato with the R.S.A. from time to time; he could be assured of their interest in hi* future. Mr A. 1!. Blackwood (on behalf of the South African Veterans) and Mr W. Clayton (on behalf of the townspeople) also conveyed good wishes, and Mrs J. A. Kaston (president of the Women's Institute) presented the usual gift of cigarettes. Among those present were Mrs S. H. Gunning, Mr and Mm E. Gunning and Mr and Mrs Glcal (Levin). The supper arrangements wore, as usual, in the hands of the Women's Institute, whose members were thanked by the M.C. It whs anticipated that Mr S. L. Graham would be present to partake in the farewell with Piiot-OfTicer Gunning, but due to his having to report at Kongatai a day earlier than, expected, ho was unable to be present. At a meeting of the executive of the R.S.A. on Thursday the committee acknowledged £8 8s from the coronation dance committee and £25 from the Sports Club towards the soldiers' parcels fund. The secretary stated that he understood a further donation was yet to come from the Sports Club. The chairman expressed regret that two members, Messrs R. Hook and \V. P. Harpur, were at present away on the sick lust, and hoped that better news would soon be heard of Messrs Gilbert Seaton and Boyno Annersloy, who are both reported missing. The matter of painting the house of a soldier's widow U to be undertaken when suitable weather conditions prevail. Advice was received from headquarters of the R.S.A. that application lor affiliation to the association has been granted as from Juno 17. and headquarters wished the Shannon Association every success. Tho secretary of tin Levin U.S.A. also expressed his executive's congratulation upon Shannon becoming a separate entity Mr B. J. Simeon has entered the Palmerston North Hospital for treatment. Mr T. Curran, of To Arc-ha, is spending a fewdays in Shannon and is staying with hla sister, Miss M. Curran.
