(From Our Own Correspondent.) At the May meeting of tile Women's Institute, Mrs R. Williams presiding. Alls A. Sehueren and Miss Edna Fergusson undertook tho duties of “sunshine” members for the coming month. Mrs N. Ashworth gaic a report on the council meeting held recently in Feilding. It was decided to pack and forward five soldiers’ parcels lo Zone E headquarters. For' a "next-of-kin” social hour several visitors were welcomed. Mrs To Pungn read a very interesting letter received from her son, Captain P, To Punga, a member of the Maori Battalion overseas; Airs Curtis londered two solos; Aliss D. Mauagh gave a too dance; and duels were sung hy Miss P. Williams and Alaster R. Williams. .Many souvenirs received from the men in the Middle East were displayed by members.' The hostesses for next month will bo Alesdamcs E. Fergusson, D. C. Managh, and J. 1.. Fergusson. Competitions resulted : Baby’s singlet, Mrs E. Davies I, Alls Sell a ere n 2, Mrs E. Brett 3 (these singlets were afterwards forwarded to the Plunket Society) ; parsnips, Miss Edna Eorgusoti 1, Airs A. Sehueren 2, Airs J. O'Sullivan 3. The competitions for June are: Bloom, and something new from something uld; Mrs Sporle will give a demonstration on quilt making. The hostesses were Alesdamcs A. Ward, A. McNuc and N. Anderson. The recent men’s golf medal round was won hy G Judd (licit 66). ' The draw lor Dext week's stroke competition is: G. ijuviin, j . Jjais, and I>. load ley; N. Anderson, A. C. Boswell and R. Todd; L. Anderson, G. Judd and K. J. Managh; J. O’Sullivan, R. Elgar anil 1. Owen; lx. Ecrgusson, E. Seigel and D. C. .Managh; E. W. Cowdrey, it. Taylor, and E. bergusson; N. Ashworth, R. Anderson and C. Fergusson; 1., Miller, G. Nicol and B. Bovan. The recent ladies' stroke competition was won by Airs J. O’Sullivan. Miss 0. M. Kerr, of To lloro, has been the guest of Mr and Airs I- W. A. Miller. Friends of Airs G. Hutton will regret to learn that she is again in hospital. Air F. Al. Saywcll, who underwent an operation recently, is making good progress. Aliss E. Wishnowsky is spending her annual leave ut Nelson. Airs L. Baffin is visiting Wanganui. Miss AI. O'Sullivan, of Mataroa, is spending a holiday with her parents. Air and Mrs J. O’Sullivan. , Tho Halcombc Golf Club’s dance was well attended. Tho lucky Gay Gordons dance was won by Miss J. Fergusson and Air R. J. Managh; and the winners of the waltzing competition were Air and Airs D. C. Managh. Euchre prizes were won by Airs B. Johnson 1, Airs J. O’Sullivan 2, Air W. Alclyennan 1, Air X. Adam 2. Air G. Judd was AI.C. The organising of tile E.P.S. in the district is being undertaken by Mr V. B. Short, who lias shown much initiative in drawing up a sound scheme the provisions of which should adequately meet requirements in an emergency.
