UNCONQUERABLE HOPE.
IN BRITAIN’S SOUL,
(Rec. 10.48 a.m.) RUGBY, Sept. 25. Dr.-Hertz, Chief Rabbi in Britain, in a Jewish New Year message, declares: “The spirit of ardent faith and unconquerable hope animates the souls of the ■ men and women in this country in their stand against the heathen rage of tlie Nazi rulers. Britain is fighting for her very existence, and on her triumphant victory over totalitarian barbarism depends tho whole cause of human freedom. “The House of Israel was the first victim of Hitler’s callous godlessness, and his declared aim is the disappearance of the Jew from Europe. When the idols of the new paganism have passed away, British Jewry will have a doublo duty—to assist our crushed and outlawed brethren in their struggle for rehabilitation and to restore Jewish religious life wherever it has been ruined by the malice of war or the disintegration of war.”
