Rev. D. / Macdonald, of Lairg, Sutherland, Scotland, is paying a brief visit to Wellington.
Sir Ernest Roberts, of Rangoon Chief Justice of the High Court in Burma, is on a short visit to New Zealand.
Mr Justice C. M. Murray-Aynsley, a Judge of the Supreme Court of the Straits Settlements, is visiting New Zealand.
Rev. C. T. Symons, of Palmerston North, Senior touth Director of the Methodist Church of New Zealand, will leave shortly for an extended visit to Australia, accompanied by Mrs Symons. Rev. B. C. Nottage, of the New Hebrides Presbyterian Mission, at present on furlough in New Zealand, has forwarded his resignation to the missions committee for health reasons.
The following members of Messrs Barraud and Abraham, Ltd.’s, staff will leave next week to join the Fourth Reinforcements: Messrs H. W. Petre, A. G. McNeile, L. Major, B. P. Spelman, J. J. Robertson, and K. Cushing. This will bring the total number of the staff serving with the Forces to 16.
At the annual meeting of the Employers’ Federation yesterday Mr B. Sutherland, of Wellington, was elected president in succession to Mr W. Mac'll in, of Christchurch. Mr J. A. C. Allum, of Auckland, was elected vice-president, and Mr G. W. Morgan, of Wellington, was re elected treasurer. The meeting placed on record appreciation of Mr Machin’s services as president during the past year. Rev. W. PI. Rainey is expected to arrive,in Australia at the end of the year to act as Commonwealth secretary of the British and Foreign Bible Society. His appointment is for the duration of the war. Mr Rainey is secretary for Western Europe, and was previously secretary for Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador. The present Commonwealth secretary is Rev. P. W. Stephenson, who will resign when he is elected this month as Bishop of Nelson, New Zealand.
The following appointments and promotions were approved at last night’s meeting of the Wellington Harbour Board: Chief executive, officer, Mr F. W. Reed. Secretary and treasurer, Mr N. J. Oliver. Assistant secretary Mr F. W, Ward. Chief clerk, Mr H. W. Prince. Mr Reed joined the board in 1902 as a cadet in the head office, afterward transferring to the accounts department. He was appointed assistant accountant and cashier in 1936, and in December, 1938, was made acting secretary. The following June lie was confirmed in this position, and has held it since. During the Great War he accompanied the New Zealand expedition to Samoa, and afterward served throughout the war. He held the rank of captain of artillery.
