Coastal Command aircraft carried out spotting for British artillery firing against the enemy gun positions between Boulogne and Calais, 1 states an Air .Ministry bulletin, which also included further details of the very widespread attacks fast night on military objectives in Germany, France, Holland and Belgium.

In the raid on Dinard aerodrome the surrounding woods were set on fire and. the intensity with which they burned indicated that a large petrol store jin tho woods had been hit. The Daimler-Benz plant at Stuttgart, one of the most important armament and armoured ear factories in 'Western Germany, was heavily attacked, and fire soon broke out, spreading rapidly until the main/group of buildings was seen to be blazing. As the flames spread heavy explosions were observed, and one of the biggest explosions occurred ten minutes after the aircraft left for home. Fires still burning fiercely in many parts of the plant were visible from 60 miles away. Flying low despite thick cloud, raiders scored several hits on the Oppau Faberindustre nitrogen plant at Ludwigshaven. Attacks were also carried out on the synthetic oil plant at on the electric power station at Knapsack, on Cologne, and on the railway station and wharf at Neheim (South of Hamm). For the third night running the Ger-, ; man long-range gun positions around Cape Gris Nez were attacked by bombers and more than 20 enemy occupied aerodromes in Holland, Belgium and many parts of France were bombed. “.MOSTLY OPKN' FIELDS." A Berlin communique states: British planes last night new over NorthWest and Southern Germany and dropped bombs which tell mostly in open fields. In the residential quarters or South-Western German cities several dwelling-houses were hit and in one town two civilians were killed and two wounded. Anoi'ner city building was destroyed in which eight prisoners of war were wounded. A German U-boat sank a 7000-ton British destroyer of the Viscount class out of a strongly protected convoy.”
