APITI.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) APITI, Aug. 26. Tho annual meeting of the Presbyterian Church was held recently, when Rev. L. J. Hodson was in tho chair. The report and balance-sheet showed a very satisfactory position. All tho officers were re-elected for the ensuing year. Thanks were expressed to those who had so faithfully and loyally supported the church, giving of their time and thought to the work which the officebearers were called upon to carry out. Thanks were also expressed to Mr and Mrs Hodson for "their work in Apiti. At the conclusion of the biuiiricss, a presentation was made to Miss Paterson. In calling upon her to accept a silver teapot on behalf of the Apiti congregation, Mr .Hodson mentioned the help and support she had always given to every activity of church life. Miss Paterson was held in the highest esteem by her many friends in the church, and they all wished her every happiness in her married life. Miss Paterson thanked all concerned for the kindly thoughts expressed. A dainty nosy of violets and primroses, made by Miss A. Benscman, was presented to Mb,? Paterson.

Miss Gilmour-Smith is spending a holiday in Dannevirke. Mrs W. Jensen is visiting Wairoa. Miss A. Alien. of Palmen-ton North is the guest of Mrs C. M. Stanley. Mosdamc.3 A. Dobson and Harland are visiting Wellington. Rev. L. J. Hodson is spending a few days in Foxton. The golfing season has now concluded for the time being. M. Stewart is the club champion; the handicap tournament was won by J. R. Stewart. At the annual meeting of the Apiti Dairy Company some 46 shareholders and suppliers were present. Mr A. R. McNac presided. The report and balance-sheet, which have already boon published, wore approved and favourably received. A dividend of li per' cent, was declared. It was decided to frame a resolution to bo forwarded to the Minister of Finance, protesting that the present guaranteed price is not commensurate with the increased costs to the farmer. A bonus of £lO was voted to the junior office employee and tho usual vote ol thanks were moved to the manager and staff for. their services. The chairman stressed the importance of farmers attending the annual shareholders’ _ and suppliers’ meeting and so showing their interest and appreciation of the work being carried out in their own factory. He also pointed out the necessity of the” appointed quorum being in attendance within the hour set down for the commencement of the meeting, otherwise the meeting had to be postponed for a further seven days, thus inconveniencing everyone concerned. A kitchen evening in honour of Miss Paterson was given on Thursday. There was a large attendance and dancing was enjoved to music provided by Mr Mooss, of Rangiwahia. Miss N. Clnirchcr played an extra. Vocal items given by Mr and Mrs S. F. Morris and Mr C. Watkins wore much enjoyed. Mr C. Spence voiced the good wishes of all to Miss .Paterson and Mr Massey and handed over to them a wonderful rusoutment- of gifts for their home. Musical honours wore accorded, and Mr Massey replied, thanking all for the beautiful presents and kindly sentiments expressed. A dainty posy was presented to Miss Paterson by little Ronnie Osborne. Mr T. Nix. jnnr.. was in charge of the door, and Mr K. Clifton was an efficient. M.O. Slipper, which -was provided by the ladies of the district, was served by Mesdames A. K Prujcan, E. Clifton, J. Cawood, A. W. Bcnscrnan, J. R. Stewart and helpers.
