MARTON, Aug. 10. Air F. Purnell presided over the annual meeting of the Marton branch of the Navy League, when a motion of sympathy yvith the relatives of the late Airs Fullerton-Smith was passed. The report stated, inter alia: The membership now stands at 100 (all financial), an increase of 12. Officers. were appointed as follow :- President, Mr F. Purnell; lion, secretary and treasurer, Airs H. F. Arkwright; vicepresident, Air H. F. Arkwright; committee, Alisses AI. and L. Cook and AA 7 illis, Airs Femvicke, Aiessrs T. Low and Christensen.

At the monthly meeting of the Alarton District High School Committee, Dr. It. A. Church yvas in the chair. The Wanganui. Education Board advised that Mrs F. T. Harper’s ser-y-ices had been yvithdrayvn because she yvas required in a relieving position at the Alarton Junction School. Aliss Olive Shout had been appointed to fill the vacancy. The headmaster (Air A. W. Tucker) reported that the yveather had had a very adverse effect on the attendance as the figures showed :—Primary department, role 321, attendance 282, per cent. 87.6; secondary department, roll 123, attendance 115, per cent. 93. Aiessrs AA’allace and Frederick yvere appointed a visiting committee for August. It was reported that the recent fancy dress ball had realised a profit of £9 in excess of that of 1937.
