A. AND P. BALL.

GAY SCENE PRESENTED. A scone of gaiety was presented in the Miimuvatu and West Coast A. and P. Association’s entertainment hall, last night, when the annual hall of the association was held. A crowd numbering between 800 and 1000 were present and the glowing shades of many lovely frocks amid the gay decorations of scarlet and white afforded a most attractive sight. The ceiling was hidden by rows of deep fringes in scarlet and white and long strands of scarlet were draped from the ceiling and fastened to the white wails. The end walls were covered with scarlet and silver, pillared and arched at the top. with the scarlet initials “A and P” in the centre. Crystallised lights outlined these decorations, and also hung from the ceiling. A comfortable drawing-room was arranged for the committee ladies and chaperones at one end. Further sittingout accommodation was provided in a large part of the agricultural hall, where standard lamps with frilled paper shades added a' delightful touch. This was separated from the supper room by a trellis ornamented with branches of cellophane kowhai. and the supper room was draped in gold. On the long tables were vases of Iceland poppies, berries and greenery. An innovation for Palmerston North was the serving of supper by the cafeteria method. Ferns and greenery, arranged on trellis, decorated the machinery shed.

The success of the ball was due to the untiring efforts of a large committee, headed by the president (Mr. C. E. Vile), Mr.' W. H. Brown, who was responsible for the decorations, and the secretary (Mr. IT. Kissling). The M.C.’s were Messrs. M. Brown, J. Selwyn, J. A. Nash and T. Collins. Mr. J. An attractive tap ballet was given, during an interval, by pupils of Miss June Scott, who wore pretty custumes consisting of long purple redingote frocks lined with pink, having very full skirts open in front, and low backs finished with winged epaulettes. They also wore tiny hats of niched purple and pink tied with pink bow* under the chin.
