CHINESE BOYCOTT

ONIONS FRODI JAPAN. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, July 17. The Chinese of Wellington support their countrymen in Auckland in strongly disapproving of the importation of Japanese onions, saying they will not handle them under any circumstances. The following statement was made from the Chinese Consulate: “A boycott has been started voluntarily by the Chinese themselves as all of them have signed a ‘people’s pact’ to pledge themselves not to buy or handle the enemy’s goods. So far as this Consulate-General is concerned it cannot take anv action which may tend to stifle the patriotic ardour of its own nationals.”
