WEEK-END ACCIDENTS. FATAL COLLISION AT AUCKLAND Per Press Association. AUCKLAND. June 11. A man and a woman were killed and five other people wore injured when a light van and a heavy motor-ear met in a head-on collision oil the Great North Road outside Waikumetc Cemetery this afternoon. The man is believed to he Mr J. K. Caldwell, Auckland. and the woman has not been identified. Both were travelling in the van. The injured are: —Air Frank Herbert Hildreth, Kohimnrama Road, concussion arid facial and internal injuries; Mr Norman Jordan, Kitchener Road, Sandringham, concussion and lacerated scalp; Airs .Hilda Nancarrow, Seabrook Avenue, New Lynn, lacerated knee; her sons, Thomas, aged (i. head injuries, and Sidney, aged 7. fractured jaw. 1 n addition to other members ol the family, Air Frank Nancarrow and •his daughter. Miss Hilda Nancarrow. suffered minor abrasions, severe bruises and shock. Tho impact was most severe. the body of the van being smashed to pieces and scattered on both sides ol the road, leaving the hare chassis. Two ambulances were needed to take the injured to the Auckland Hospital. FATAL INJURIES. ACCIDENT ON HUTT ROAD. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON. June 11. Fatal injuries wore received by a pedestrian who was knocked down by a motor-car while crossing the Hnit road at the Petone level crossing on Saturday evening. Severe injuries, from which ho.died on tho way to the Christchurch Public Hospital, were suflorod by a pedestrian in a collision with a ear about 0.15 p.m. on Saturday. He was Air "William Henry Payne, an elderly man of Islington. Mr Daniel Gunn. a married man, who suffered serious head injuries when knocked down by a car in the city on Friday night, died iu the Christchurch Public Hospital this a I ternoon. CYCLIST STRUCK BY CAR. HASTINGS. June FI. An elderly man received fatal injuries when he was knocked down bv a car while cycling along Karanui Road at 0 o’clock this evening. He was Air William Edwards, Fenwick Street, Hastings. FALL FROM TRAIN. WOMAN SERIOUSLY INJURED. NEW PLYMOUTH. June 11. Serious injuries were suffered by Airs Al. A. Drake, 10 Brooklyn Terraco. Wellington, when she fell from the Wellington-New Plymouth express, .a mile south of Nukumani. on Saturday afternoon. The guard of the train was informed ol the accident and the train hacked half a mile to pick up Airs Drake, who was taken to the Pa tea Hospital, suffering from a badly crushed foot, severe bruises, and shock. Her condition lat.c last night was still serious. .urs Drake was accompanied by her son. Air P. Drake. Mr D. N. AloLean, ol Mangatainoka, gave her first aid.
