The Company is engaged in the manufacture of Groundwood Pulp and Paper Board. The Company's Pulp and Paper Mill at Whakatane has taken over two years to erect and cost over £500,000. The works are most modern and capable of extensive production at economic cost. The Plantations —pulpwood and land- —are valued by Prof. H. Hugh Corbin, B.Sc.Ag.Edin., B.Sc.Lond., B.Sc.Adel., at £1,104,100. The Mill commenced production in March, 1939. The Company is issuing Debentures totalling £2 00,000 partly to consolidate its current liabilities and partly to provide additional funds for working capital. Existing Shareholders of the Company have subscribed for in cash and have been allotted £68,000 of the Debenture Issue. £15,000 is being held on reserve for later issue and the balance of the issue, £1 1 7,000, is for public subscription. The plant at Whakatane has a production capacity of 20,000 tons of Paper Board per annum, and during the coming 12 months the Company estimates producing and selling 12,000 tons of Paper Board. The net profit on output of Paper Board is estimated at £5 per ton, so that on a turnover of 12,000 tons the total net profit would be £60,000. Profit required to meet 51 per cent, debenture interest is £1 1,000 per annum. Debenture interest will be payable in Australian Currency half-yearly on March 31 and September 00.
