Charges of having no warrants of fitness were made against 13 drivers, and fines ranging from 10s to All were imposed. “The Court’s previous warning docs not seem to have been respected,” said the police prosecutor, drawing attention to the prevalence of the olfence. “People apparently do not recognise tho necessity ot having warrants ot fitness, and they should bo made to appreciate their responsibility.” . Counsel for one defendant submitted that, every motorist unwittingly .transgressed the law by overlooking the date of renewal of their warrants. Alany people, too, were under the impression that the warrant covered 12 months and not, six, lie said, lhe authorities might be well advised to fix certain dates on which warrants should be obtained. “I have already suggested that no license -should he' till the warrant of fitness is issued, ’ said the Afagistrate. “It is the duty of the motorist to carry a warrant of fitness the same as a driving license, and oversights cannot, be accepted as any satisfactory excuse.
