U.A.P. VICTORY PREDICTED. Received May 22. 8.5 a.m. BRISBANE, May 21. There was close counting in the Federal by-election in the Griffith electorate necessitated because of the dejeth of Mr F. M. Baker. Figures were: V. P. Conelan (Labour) ... ... 21,73 i P. McGowan (United Australia Party ... 16,418 E. H. Graham (Protestant Labour) 14,738 The result will depend on the distribution of Mr Graham’s preferences, the majority of which is expected to go to Mr McCowan giving him victory.
