WERAROA ESCAPEES.

TRAIL OF CRIME. BORSTAL TREATMENT. i, _ NAPIER, A lay 20. This morning three escapees from Weraroa Boys’ Training Farm, who were recaptured on Thursday, appeared before Afr J. Aliller, S.M., in tho Children’s Court-, Napier. Each of tho boys was sentenced to three years’ Borstal detention. Since their escape on Afav 13, the hoys piled up a long list of offences, which were catalogued as follows: Atay 13. —Tn Foxton, theft of threo bicycles valued at £l6; in Hokowhitu, breaking and entering the selioolhouse by night. May 14.—Unlawful conversion of a car in Palmerston North ; breaking and entering a dwelling in Tiakitahuna (near Palmerston North), and stealing goods valued at £5; in Palmerston North, theft of two raincoats valued at £3. May 15.—1 n Waipukurau, theft of 7s 6d, the property of the Alasonic Lodge, and committing mischief by damaging doorlocks, the porperty of tho lodge; in Napier, unlawful conversion of a car, the property of Dudley Charles Alerrick. Alav 16. —In Wairoa, unlawful conversion of a car, theft of groceries valued at 14s lid, and theft of an overcoat valued at £2; in Tutira, committing mischief by damaging a dooriock. May 17.—1 n Tuai, breaking and entering and stealing goods valued at £lO. Sub-Inspector Ponder stated that the three boys had joined in a conspiracy to escape. First they broke a lock on an outside door and had everything in readiness to effect -a getaway. They then decoyed one of the attendants to the dormitory, and when he reached the room the boy who was with him slipped outside and locked the door, leaving the attendant imprisoned. Thereafter their trail of crime led through Foxton, Palmerston North, Central Hawke’s Bay, Napier, Wairoa, and Tuai, the boys being captured by Constable J. S. Horne, of Tuai, some 30 miles beyond that set tlemcnt.
