PRICE TRIBUNAL.

COMMENCING THIS WEEK. ‘ MR H. L. WISE A MEMBER. WELLINGTON, May 22. 'Hie Price Investigation Tribunal, which was recently set up by the Government, will begin its work this week. Making this announcement at the week-end the Minister of Industries and Commerce (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) said the tribunal would consist of two members who would have the powers of judicial inquiry and investigation under the Board of Trade Act. As already announced Hon. Mr Justice Hunter was to be one of the members. The other member whom the Government had appointed was Air H. L. Wise, M.Com., A.8.A.N.Z., advisory officer of the Department of Industries and Commerce. Air Sullivan said that Air Justice Hunter was the additional judge of the Court of Arbitration and that he would act as chairman of the tribunal. He was to leave Christchurch for Wellington to-night to take up his new duties. “Air AViso is an accountant hv examination, a member of the New Zealand Society of Accountants, and of the Incorporated Institute of Accountants of New Zealand, and a fellow of the Royal Economic Society,” said Air Sullivan. “He has had considerable experience‘of price fixation and control in New Zealand under the Board of Trade Act, 1919, and the Prevention of Profiteering Act, 1936, and has in addition made a special study of price regulation and control in other countries. Air AVise has served on numerous Governmental committees, and is secretary of the Tobacco Board. “Arrangements are being made for the provision of suitable office accommodation for the tribunal in AVellington. In the meantime the tribunal will he housed in the offices of the Department of Industries and Commerce in the new Government Life Insurance building. “Regulations requiring that price increases be notified to the tribunal arc now being drafted.”
