PAHIATUA BURGLARY
SAFE AND BOOKS REMOVED. Per Press Association. j PAHIATUA, May 21. Some time during Saturday night entry was forced into Yates’ store, and a sale belonging to the firm, containing about £ls in cash, together with ■ ledger books was removed, the intruders leaving very little in the way of a clue. The persons responsible apparently gained their entry by forcing open the front door of the shop with a ■ jemmy. The lock is of the snib type j and would not present a great deal of ; difficulty. Once inside they apparently made straight for a small office at the rear of the premises, the door of which was open and which contained the safe. Nothing else was removed except the safe, not even the smallest article of stock being taken. Fortunately the takings for Saturday had been banked or the thieves would have made a considerable haul. The manager locked the front door as) usual at mid-day on Saturday and it was not until this morning that the burglary was discovered by a man who happened to puss the promises. An inspection revealed that the intruders 1 had left the shop without having caused any damage to anything except the door.
