PROGRESS OF GAME. MEETING OE FEDERATION. A proposal to hold the 1940 national championship tournament in Wellington was adopted at the annua] meeting of the New Zealand Badminton Federation on Saturday afternoon. It was stated that the game was making, amazing progress throughout the Dominion, and that the playing membership was now nearly 6000. Mr G. J. E. Smith (New Plymouth) presided over a record attendance of delegates. In a supplement to the annual report it was stated that during the off season the executive had given considerable thought to arrangements for overseas tours as well as to plans for activities in the centennial year. “Wo are encouraged by the success of the Australian visit last year to embark on an ambitious programme,” the executive added, “anti it is believed that all member associations will greatly benefit by such a policy and further progress of the game will result.” Officers elected were: —Patron, His Excellency the Governor-General, Lord Galway; president, Dr. G. W. Gower: vice-presidents, Mr D. 0. Mbyte and Mr E. J. Pumphrey: hon. secretary and treasurer, Mr R. B. Whecley; hon. auditor, Mr T. G. Hull; hon. solicitor, Mr H. N. Burns; management committee, Messrs D. A. F. Crombic, H. N. Burns, E. J- Rishwortli, E. C. Gorton, C. Levin (“Wellington), E. R. Uttina, D. S. .lames (Auckland), C. J. E. Smith (New Plymouth), G. Callis (Hamilton), H. M. A. Major (Masterton). Dr. Gower, in thanking the delegates for electing him president, said the game was growing in popularity so rapidly that it was a question whether sufficient was being done to provide adequate accommodation for the players.
