WELLINGTON STOCK EXCHANGE.
REVIEW OF PAST WEEK. Considerable interest centred last week in the prospectus of the Government’s new internal 4 per cent loan of £4,500,000, and tho terms of the issue were received with general satisfaction. Apart from this, there were no special features in the stock and. share markets. Prices showed no marked changes, and a fair volume of business was recorded. Most Australian issues were very firm, banks being the exception. Slightly more attention was given to selected New Zealand industrials. Support for Government stocks was given mainly to the 4 per cent issues. There was little doing in local body debentures. There was a fairly good turnover or bank shares. New Zealands firmed to 40s Id. National of New Zealand were done at 44s Od to 445. Commercial of Australia eased to 16s 2d, the preference being unchanged at £9 10s. E.S. and A. Banks weakened to business at £O3 4s. Australasias were steady at £9 15s. New South Wales went to £3l 10s, and Unions to £8 Is, a.nd National of Australasia, £5 paid, sold at £6 15s Gd. Insurance shares wore quiet and little changed. Nationals went at 15s 10d, New Zealands at 535, South British at 44s 6d to 445, and Standards at 51 s Gd to 51s. There was little doing in financial issues. New Zealand industrials ■ received more attention, but prices showed little improvement. Wilson’s Cement wore firm at 18s as were Consolidated Brick at 10s. Dominion Breweries improved to 345, and New Zealand Breweries went to 38s 9d. Leading Australian industrials maintained their strength at substantial premiums on the prices ruling in Sydney and Melbourne. Australian. Consolidated Industries touched 38s, as against 36s 7pl in Melbourne. British Tobacco advanced to 525, and Broken Hill Proprietary to 66s 9d. ToStlis were firmer at 57s 9d. Colonial Sugars held their ground at around £sl ss. G. J. Coles and tho rights to the new issue remained firm. Woolworths, Ltd., eased to 23s Cd, but Woohvorths (New Zealand) were sliHitly better at 19s. Electrolytic Zincs were fully firm. Taranaki Oils wore dull of saie, and closed at 5s 10d to 6s.
