(From Our Own Correspondent.) MAKINO, A Jay 21. On Saturday evening All- and Airs W. E. Hills, “Highland Park,” Alakino, entertained membere and families of the South African. War Veterans’ Association at an enjoyable card parly. With the folding doors opened out, the drawing room and lounge, with huge log fires in each, gavi> a warm invitation to ail those present. After supper had been served by the hostess, the card results were read out, the winners being: Ladies, Airs Cummings; men, Air Lucas; consolation prizes, Aliss Langford and Air B. Cummings; travelling competition, Mr J. Cummings and Aliss Hughes. Captain S. Lankishcur (president of the Palmerston North and Building branch) cordially thanked Air and Airs Hills for their hospitality in providing such an enjoyable evening. Air \Y. Tubman responded on behalf of Air Hills. Those preedit included Air and Airs D. AlcGregor, |Mr and Airs J. Hills, AJr and Airs W. luhnian, Air and Airs J. Cummings, Alessrs Lucas, Hughes. Lanksiiear, Crawford, Ivory, A. Shaklers, J. Nairn, H. Nairn, B. Cummings, R. Hills and Alisscs AI. Warnc, Langford, 8., and A). Hughes and N. Cummings. All- B. Cummings gate several items on iiis piano-accordion. A euchre gathering was conducted in the hall last week, there being a record attendance. After an enjoyable evening’s play the winners proved to be Miss Schultz ' and AJr C. Vincent, while the consolation prizes went to Al-iss S. Baker and AJr W. Reid. The prizes for the ladies’ section were donated hy Mrs Wilton, for the men’s the prizes were donated hy Air W. D. It. Baker. Dancing was continued until a late hour, tho music being supplied by local talent. Aire D. Bowafcr has her sister, Aliss B’. Marshall, staying with her. Air and Airs [ B. Stewart have returned to their home at Alorrinsvillo after spending a few days with Air and Airs T. Shalders. Air D. Bowater has left for the military camp at Marlon. Ho holds the ranks of corporal. Mrs Hunter is at present on holiday with her mother, Alls Taylor.
