COMMEMORATION SERVICE.
FLORENCE NIGHTINGALE’S BIRTHDAY. An impressive service was held at St. Andrew’s Church, last evening, in commemoration of Florence Nightingale, whose birthday anniversary was celebrated recently. The matron of the Palmerston North Public Hospital, Miss L. M. Banks, and some 60 members of the nursing staff, also Mrs M. Aitchison, a member of the Palmerston North Hospital Board, Dr. E. D. Gillies, and members of the honorary staff were in attendance. The music was appropriate to the occasion, and Rev. J. Hubbard, M.A.. 8.D., who conducted the service, based his sermon on the text, “In as much as ve do it unto one of the least of these My brethren, ye do it unto Me.” Mr Hubbard spoke of the religion of the wards, from the point of view of the medical profession, 'the nurses and the patients, eulogising the self-sacri-ficing service of those ministering to the sick and the fortitude of those long suffering.
