Old Bovs.—Buick, Reid, McNeile, Howell, Hill, Carson, McGrath, Waldegrave, Lcwin, Porter, Fleming, O'Dea, Lang, Shand, Cutler. Powell opened the scoring with a penalty kick for a scrum infringements, kicking across-wind from well out on the 2.) yards lino. First St.. Patrick’s and” then Old Boys put everything they had into loose rushes. Richards lining out to stem one of these. Fitzpatrick showed brilliant work in sending the hall out from a scrum. Richards making ground quickly and then passing inward to Fitzpatrick, 'Kicking up. the latter sending on lo Hchir on being e. challenged, and the latter scoring. Powell converted the try. I Just prior to half-time attacks wore instituted by both teams in a period of very fast play. Til tiie second lmlf Porter and Fleming gave Old Boys the first relief from a prolonged advantage held by Gt. Patrick’s, Buick trying for .a. penalty goal from well out, but the kick missed. St. Patrick’s were penalised for holding the ball too long ami McGrath got a "gift” threo points from right in front of the goal. Old Boys tried re- 1 ■Heatedly to cross the St. Patricks line a speculative kick even- 1 tiiallv giving St. Patrick’s relief. I Buick gathered in .. a kick by St. I Patrick’s through the Old Boys <jle-. fence, and from outside the half-wav line drop-kicked for the ball to hit the middle of the cross-bar and come j back into the field. St. Patrick’s turn-| ed a furious attack by Old Boys into defensive tactics, at which point the game ended with the scores: St. Patrick’s 8, Old Boys 3. The referee was Mr J. Burgess. UNIVERSITY BEATEN. EIGHT-POINT WIN FOR UNITED. In a game which was bright in patches and was in doubt until the last 20 minutes, although United held the lead all through, United hen-t University by 11 points to 3. The teams United.— Hughes. Meade, Holland, Colev, Barker, Kingsbeer, Bradley, Findlay, Birchall, Dustin, Edwards, Ward, Luxmoore, Pike, Bovis. University. Blackley, Mitchell, Thurston, Little, Stewart McCracken, Bennett Green. McKee, Wallace, Craven, Carter, McLaren, Gray. Seeley United swung into action first and the ball went right down the hackline to Meade. Bradlev and Luxmoore shone in a loose rush which carried activities on to the University line, where a force-down resulted. A short punt landed in McCracken’s hands and lie handed on to the other hacks, Mitchell finally being pushed out at the corner. From a series of scrums United secured and cleared. Holland and Coley were both outstanding with individual flashes of brilliance. Kingsbeer was marking Stewart vigilantly, and before the hitter could move lie was downed. A penalty against him for hanging on to the hall was turned to advantage hy "Ward* the hall flying straight and* clear between the posts. Stewart picked up well and a stab-Kic.k caught Hughes unawares, a scrum relieving. Coley showed lip with two fine

runs down the line, and the second time he w r as pushed out oi : bounds. An attempt .at goal from a place-kick by McLaren just veered to the left of the uprights. Half-time came with the score unaltered. University started right from the whistle, Mitchell getting away in great style down the side-line only to be forced into touch. Next the University forward, Seeley, penetrated a melee and was on the wiay to scoring when he made an attempt at a field goal, thus losing his opportunity. However, from the resultant loose scramble Little picked up and crossed the line, bringing the scores level. McLaren s kick went wide. Once more Seelev broke through from the line-out, and was grassed just short of the line. He tried to work his way across, but was penalised and United cleared. I\in.esl>eer and Coley retaliated, as United s first attacking movement of the' second half, and play was transferred immediately to the other end of the field. Here Coley again made a great effort to score, which just failed. In the thick of it as usual, Findlay came nwav from the scrum in possession and handed on to Barker, who was stopped immediately. Next in the picture was Stewart, who “sold the dummy” beautifully, and had his initial run for some time. A kick from a comparatively easy position was held buck b.v the wind, but University had a fighting chance of scoring. Mitchell, however, was pushed out again. United’s next points came from a penalty kick from a handy position, Ward giving them the lead. Shortly afterwards good following up by Coley and Holland culminated in the tatter going over unopposed. Ward improved with an excellent kick. Despite further efforts by University the game then faded away and the final tally was: United 11, University 3. Mr C. Eglington was the referee. KIA TO A SUCCESSFUL. VICTORS OVER FEILDING OLD BOYS. .At Johnston Park. Feilding, Kia Ton beat Feilding Old Boys by 15 points to 6. Gnwsey, Harford, Dewe, Reynolds, Wells, Freeman, Rutherford, Fade, Robertsliawo, Scott, Black, Finlay Handicapped from the kick-off bv a strong breeze, Feilding Old Bovs during tbe opening exchanges were quickly pushed back and forced to play a defensive game. Carr missed with a penalty kick taken fairly close in on an angle. While Feilding Old Boys occasionally drovo back the attackers, Kia Toa maintained the balance of territory with despatches to the sideline, and when the home team were penalised Carr drew first blood with the kick. In the play which followed Kia Toa were well held by the opposing foiwards, but a patch, of loose play saw Beard collect the leather and scamper through to score iri the corner. Carr s kick missed. A surprise came a low minutes later when Carr secured n beautiful field goal. Feilding Old Boys I had been awarded a penalty kick and Dewe’s despatch was gathered m by Carr who. aided by tlic wind, sent the ball cleanly between tbe uprights. Feilding Old Bovs attacked and pushed Kia Toa well hack, and in the effort to repulse the invaders the visitors got out of position and the penalty kicktaken b.v Finlay, succeeded. Iho spell ended a moment later. _ Contrary to expectations, .rending Old Boys'failed to make use of the wind iii their favour and a senes of penalties .awarded against them resulted in their being unable to make pi tigress. Kia Toa had their opponents pushed well back when, following a scrum, the ball came out* to McKenzie, who dragged with him several attackers in his mil through to score. Carr converted. Loose play followed ill midfield until Harford got possession to despatch a long shot, a.nd, following up fast, recovered ihn leather to score wide out. Finlay’s kick failed. Feilding Old Boys made several further, attempts to penetrate the defence of their opponents and Harford at one stage looked like scoring, hut was tumbled a few yards out and McGrath cleared the ball to the side. When the spell ended play was hovering about neutral territory. The final score was: Kia Toa 15, Feilding Old Boys G. »■ Mr B. Holds worth was the referee.
