SALVATION ARMY.

Fully 300 people sat down to tea at the annual festival of the AA'oodville Salvation Army Band, held in the Institute Hall, on Saturday evening. There were many visiting Salvationists. the Palmerston North contingent numbering about 60. The Palmerston North Army Band and Songsters Brigade provided the subsequent programme. The tea was presided over by Alajor H. C. Goffin, the territorial hand secretary. He complimented all concerned upon the great success of the function and extended congratulations to Bandmaster D. S. L. Keay and his men. also to the local officers, Captain and Mrs L. H. Jones, upon their efforts. Regret was expressed that, owing to indisposition. Airs Keav was unable to bo present, and she was commended for her co-operation with the bandmaster. Major Coffin doubted whether there was another town in New Zealand, of a similar population as AA 7 oodville, where such a fine response could be made as was being seen that evening. The bandsmen provided their own uniforms, gave all their services gratuitiously, and generally it was a wonderful combination. Ho extended good wishes to Bandmaster Keay for the band’s progress. The Afayor (Air R. It. Johnston), who was accompanied by Mrs Johnston, added his felicitations and congratulated the AVoodville Band and its conductor upon its festival. He spoke of the respect in which the Army was held in the community, of the influence it,wielded, the assistance it gave to civic causes, and the zeal of the bandmaster. On behalf of the Alinisters’ Association, Rev. 1). H. Hay, B.A. (St. David’s Presbyterian Church) joined in the good wishes to the AVoodville band. Adjutant A r . Dick (Palmerston North) and Alajor Brown (Feilding) conveyed greetings from their respective corps. The visitors included Adjutant and Airs Reid (Putaruru), Captain and Mrs Read (Greymouth), Bandmaster L. York (Palmerston North), Bandmaster Harford (Feilding), Songster Leader B. Bell (Palmerston North), Envoy and Airs Taylor (Linwood), Bandmasters Linipus and Shearer (AVellington), and Geard (Dannevirke), Lieutenant E. Dick (Queenstown), Revs. B. P. AVilhams (Holy Trinity Church) and T. Coatsworth (Alethodist). Captain L. H. Jones (AA’oodville) stated that on tnking command of the local corps he had learned a good deal about the annual festival. The results of the energetic efforts of the bandsmen and the other members of the corps were manifest that evening. He complimented Bandmaster Ivooy upon the patience ho exercisod, and said that the band was quite proficient. Captain Jones returned thanks to the visiting performers, the ladies, and the various other helpers in a very successful festival. Those who contributed to an enjoyable programme were: The band Airs Shearman lan Ingram, the songsters, and Airs Read. Helpful services were conducted by Major Goffin at the Army hall on Sunday.
