DEADLOCK REMAINS.
DON AZANA’S FIRMNESS
Received February 21, 11.55 a.m. LONDON, Feb. 20. The British United Press Paris correspondent says the Premier, Senor Negrin, has telegraphed the 1 resident (Don. Azana) asking him m the Republic’s name to go to Madrid as early as possible in order to assure the normal constitutional working or the Government, adding that public order has been fully restored and the populace is faithful to the Government s decisions. . A Paris message says Don Azana seerctlv conferred with former Ministers, Senors Portela and Giral also Dr Barrios, the President ot the Cortes, who approved of Don Azana s refusal Mo go to Madrid Don Azana read an ultimatum to Senor Negrin in which ho stated he was doing everything to promote peace. He added that when France recognised General Franco as the de jure Government he would resign the 1 residency and become a private citizen. A Toulouse message says the Loyalist General Staff officers and members of the Cortes have left for Valencia determined to continue their light loi liberty.
