MEAGRE BUSINESS.

WELLINGTON SHARE MARKET

Business was very slow on the Wellington Stock Exchange yesterday, the total trading covering lour sales. Government -loans continued in active demand at firm rates, but few sellers were offering. Bank shares were quiet, with an easy tendency. There were weak sellers of National of New Zealand at 45s Australasia were wanted at £9 6sj and buyers were in for Commercial of Australia preference at £9 Bs, and ordinaries at 15s lOd. Wellington Gas ordinaries were lower at 29s 3d. Insurance shares were quiet and unchanged. Bond’s Hosiery firmed to 20s 6d, sellers 21s 3d, and Wellington Woollen were quoted at 96s for the ordinaries, and 99s for the preference. Taringamutu Timber firmed to 12s. Carlton Breweries' were wanted at 665, and Tooths at 55s 6d, sellers asking 56s 6d. There was a slightly improved demand for miscellaneous industrial issues at generally firm rates. Reid Rubber were marked up to 23s 9d. Australian issues were inclined to firm a little.
