TALLOW, HEMP AND FRUIT. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London, dated February 17 : Tallow. —Market steady oil . spot; small business has been done for shipment. Present spot quotations arc: —Mutton: Fine, 24s 6d to 255; good, 21s to 21s 6d; fair, 16s 6d to 17s. Beef: Fine, 20s 6d to 21s; good, 18s; fair, 16s to 16s 6d. Mixed: Good, 18s- fair, 16s to 16s 6d; gut, 14s to 15s 6d. Mutton: Dark to dull, 15s to 16s 6d. Beef: Dark to dull. 14s to 15s 6d. Hemp.—Manila: Market quiet and easier; “K” grade, Fcbruary-April shipment. sold down to £l7 7s 6d. Sisal: Market quiet and easier; closing value, No._ 1, February-April shipment, £l6 15s. New Zealand: Nothing to report. Apples.—lmproved demand. Oregon Newtown, 12s to 13s; 'British Columbia Nowtowns, 11s to 12s. Pears. —Market weaker and slightly lower. Californian Winter Nc-lis, 9s 6d to 11s. Washington Anjou pears, 10s to 13s.
