AVith the object of studying the administration of kitchen and dietary departments, Sister Ross, who is in charge of the dietary department at tho Palmerston North Hospital, was yesterday granted two weeks’ leave by the Hospital Board, in addition to her •annual leave, to enable her to visit Australia. A grant of £2O was also made towards her expenses, conditional on her returning to give at least another year’s full service with the board, to which she is to submit a written report. “I have for some time had in mind an extensive scheme for remodelling and reorganising the kitchen, because 1 am firmly of the opinion that a new kitchen must come soon,” reported the managing-secretary (Mr A. J. Phillipps), in recommending the action subsequently taken by the board. He added that a food mixer and other machines were required, as the equipment of that type was inadequate. Now that domestic staff wages had l>ccome such a problem, every consideration had to be given to the installation of labour-saving devices.
