"Call in the steeplejacks" should have been the cry at the Auckland Town Hall when there was need to replace a broken lanyard on the flagpole above the clock tower ... but Auckland is lacking in steeplejacks, so they called in the fire brigade instead. One of the firemen, after making two unsuccessful attempts to shin up made a bowline around the pole and gradually worked his way up.
