ANXIETY FELT

DIPLOMATIC OFFENSIVE. GERMANY’S PLANS. FIRST STEP AGAINST AUSTRIA. (United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received November 13, 11.40 a.m. . LONDON, Nov. 12. The North American Newspaper Alliance has received a speoial message from Sir Arthur Willert who say*:— “Anxiety is felt that the indications are that Germany is about to start the long expected diplomatic offensive fpr the domination of Central and South-Eastern Europe, beginning against Austria. A grave view is taken of an inspired statement from Berlin scolding Austria for her unfriendliness to Germany. It is not regarded as the preeusor of violent action against Austria, but as the first step in a careful campaign for the subordination of Vienna to Berlin. “It is believed that tho next step will be an effort to make Dr Schuschnigg (the Austrian Chancellor) include Austrian Nazis in his Cabinet. Thereafter there will be intensified Nazi agitation leading to a political crisis, eliminating Dr Schuschnigg and ensuring the formation of a Nazi Government at the beck and call of Berlin.”

Sir Arthur Willert was formerly attached to the British Foreign Office.
