NAVYMAN’S OFFENCE.

Per Press A ssop-Vtion. WELLINGTON, Sept. 3. Kenneth George Beckwood. aged 25, seaman, pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court to absenting himself from H.M.S. Achilles without leave and receiving, a gold watch and-rings, of the value of £26 os, stated to have been taken from a home at Otaki by one of two companions whom he picked up with at Palmerston North. Accused was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment on one of the receiving charges and seven days’ on the other. Tl*e desertion charge was withdrawn on the ground that the matter would best be dealt njith by the naval authorities. It was stated that the man was on loan from England, and would probably be returned there.
