MANAWATU RACING CLUB.

MR lIENRYS HONOURED.

At a committee meeting of the Manawatu Racing Club it was decided to ask Mi- J. Henrys, former handicapper, to enjoy all the privileges of the club until the next general meeting, when he will be made a life member.

Owing to the number of horses training at Awapuni the club has decided to erect 20 more stalls and another sand roll before the Christmas meeting.

In a letter to the president of the club (Mr C. Louisson), Mr Henrys put forward the suggestion to tho programme committee that they should adhere to the 7st. 51b. minimum m all handicap events where apprentices oan claim the 51b. .allowance, which Manawatun adopted over two years ago at his suggestion. Mr Henrys stated that he had submitted this proposal to the New Zealand Racing Conference. Clubs had the power to fix their own minimum in many handicap events, and he therefore assumed that was the reason it was adopted by the conference. Horses handicapped at 7sl 101 b. and V.P'' r F d could claim the 51b allowance, while those handicapped at 7st were at the disadvantage of not being able to claim any allowance; at 7.1 one pound, 7.2 two pounds, 7.3 three pounds, 7.4 four pounds, while horses handicapped up to the 9-stone mark •could claim tho 51b allowance, thus favouring the top-weights. Mnnawatu being the first club to adopt the 7.5 minimum, the writer sincerely hoped they would not divert from it. -- . *
