CAR WRECKED.
SERIOUS INJURIES RESULT,

Leaving the road, a car smashed into a pole three miles south of Ashburton at 8 o’clock this morning and was completely wrecked. The three occupants, all residents of , Invercargill, were on their way to the Test match at Christchurch. They were sent to hospital with serious injuries. They are :—"William Patrick, aged 49, of 29 Dee Street; Neil McGowan, aged 28, of 60 Earnslaw Street; and Gladys Marshall, aged 23, of 82 Burke Street. The party left Invercargill at five o’clock last evening and travelled all night, Mr Patrick driving. Sir McGowan and Miss Marshall were unconscious when admitted to hospital. Messrs Patrick and McGowan have injuries to the head but their condition is satisfactory. ' Miss Marshall sustained multiple injuries, including a fracture of the right leg, and is suffering from severe shock. Her condition is serious.
