TROUBLE ON SHIP.
DESTROYER TO INVESTIGATE. SOUTH AFRICAN STEAMER. LONDON, Sept. 2. The destroyer Broke set out from Plymouth to investigate radioed reports of trouble on the South African steamer Sherard Osborn in the Bay of Biscay. She is bound for Rotterdam from Table Bay. H.M.S. Resolution picked up a message, but was unable to communicate with the steamer owing • to interference. The Admiralty announced that the trouble was serious. Messages were screened at Plymouth cinemas summoning the Broke’s crew. She steamed out at midnight. The Sherard Osborn played a part in the Titanic rescue.
