SOUTH AUCKLAND TITLE. Per Press Association. HAMILTON, Sept. 2. B. G. Thomson (Middlemore) 151, R. Glading (Hamilton) 158, H. P. Dale "(Te Aroha) 161, and Y. G. Ferguson (Hamilton) 164, were the first four to qualify in the South Auckland open golf championship to-day. The holder, Tpd Morpeth (Titirangi) was sixth to qualify with 166. The links are in perfect order. and are playing well for the Dominion championships, which begin here at the end of’the month.
VETERANS AT PLAY
TOURNAMENT AT ROTORUA

x ROTORUA, Sept. 2. The annual tournament for the New Zealand Golf Veterans’ Cup, which is at present in progress on the Arikikapakaka course, Rotorua, to-day reached the semi-final stages. Eighty-six veterans, representing clubs in all parts of the Dorpiiiion, are participating, the minimum age limit being 65. In the semi-finals to-day, A. W. Downer (Rotorua! heat H. T. Gillies (Hamilton), 2 and 1; and D. McCormick (Auckland) beat V. C. Keys (Rotorua), 3 and 2. Downer and McCormick will meet in the final to-day. In the second division, in which the second 32 to qualify participated, S. Powdrell (Wanganui) and W. Somerset Smith (Napier) have reached the final. The trophy for this division is the Arikikapakaka Cup. The tournament has been played under favourable weather conditions, marred only by occasional showers.
Playing in the Veterans’ Cup Mr J. B. Brown (Otaki) with a 19 handicap registered a net score of 69—73—142. PALMERSTON NORTH CLUB. •The September medal handicap‘will be played by the Palmerston North Golf Club over the week-end at Awatapu. Players who are drawn in the various championship and handicap events are notified that all first round matches are to be played by September 12. .
