FURTHER DETAILS. DEBRIS STREWN EVERYWHERE ‘ V, LONDON, Sept. 2 Such was the velocity of the wind that the observatory instruments ceased registering after reaching 125 to 130 miles hourly. The waterfront is strewn with large and small craft blown ashore. These include 21 seagoing vessels, among them being the Anglo-Italian liners Talamba and Conteverde. The Dutch liner Vanheutsz is ashore on the island of Onlee r .Before going ashore she collided with.’ the British cruiser Suffolk with such force that 12 Chinese were flung overboard. The cruiser later struck the destroyer Duchess. The German liner Gneisenau dragged its anchors 600 yards. Several piers were wrecked and the roads are littered with the debris of houses and motor-cars.
Waterfront shops are flooded waistdeep. f A building collapsed, killing fifty Chinese. ..
The casualties are estimated at one hundred. There were many heroic rescues from scuppered vessels *y British police and revenue officers roped together. - The Danish liner India from Manila to Japan sent out an S.O.S. Its position is unknown.
