(From. Our Own Correspondent.) RONGOTEA. Dec. 8. A meeting of the Rongotea School Committee was held on Monday evening when there was a full attendance. The chairman (Mr W. Amies) expressed sympathy, on behalf of the membors, with Air E. A. Clroad in his recent bereavement. Correspondence was received from the Wanganui Education Board stating that the Government had approved of a special grant to enable the board to tile-drain the school playing area, and that tenders are to bo called, and the work proceeded with at the earliest opportunity; also I hat increased capitation from £l6 13s 4d to £lB. would bo payable for the term ending December. The Combined School Committees’ Association wrote stating that they had been notified that a refund of 8d per pupil per day for those travelling to secondary schools would be payable beginning with the third term.

In the event of sufficient funds boing available in future, the refund would be increased. The headmaster (Mr W. A. Churchill) reported that the roll number for the last month had been 99, while the average attendance, had been good, with the exception of the last week, when many of the younger pupils had been absent owing to colds and influenza. In the calf competition both the school and group judging took place at tho Kopanc School grounds this year, and in tho open classes Rongotea gained first for care and handling and third for type of calf. Thanks wore duo to all those parents who placed their care at the disposal of the school and transported pupils to Kopanc. The combined concert and prize-giving would be hold next week and arrangements were well in hand. Several matters requiring attention were left in tho hands of the chairman. The No. 2 group have been very successful in previous years in tho Calf Club competitions and four animals are to bo 6Cnt to Feilding to take part in tho final judging. The appointment of a person to fill tho vacancy on tho committee caused by the resignation of Mr W. J. Berry was held over till tho next meeting. Accounts for £7 6s 8d woro passed for payment.
