FASHION NOTES.

Of double taffeta, the new evening coats presented by Peter Russell at a private showing in London were of ground-length, and featured large pockets, wide lapels and straight halflength sleeves. One striking model was worn over a silver gown decorated with a spray of yellow flowers. Hemstitching is used on dark daytime dresses to show vivid coloured backings, padding and stitching in satin evening coats, and small massed squares of pinked taffeta called “crinklecrackle” are used for banding hems, for belts and capes, for both day and evening. Chiffon doeskai is a new material for long gloves, some of which are ornamented with contrasting chevrons right to the elbow. Brown and while reversible silk is cleverly treated with the light side used for a waistcoat effect on the frock and the band on the shady straw hat. The coat lias short puff ■ sleeves, and a saunter back.
