AWAHURI.
AWAHURI, Nov. 20. Mr and Mrs M. It. Bennett are at present on a motor tour in the north. On the evening of November 0, in 'the Awahuri Hall, the friends of Mr and Mrs E. O. Bond assembled in large numbers to honour the twentyiirst birthday of their nephew, Mr Ivan Bond. The proceedings opened with popular dances, while concert items were interspersed. In a conspicuous place on the stage, a wellfilled table displayed numerous and beautiful presents, which testified the guest of honour’s popularity. The birthday cake, which was made by Mrs Bond, occupied price of place. Mr Bond, oil behalf of Mrs Bond and himself, welcomed their many friends and introduced his brother, father of Mr Ivan Bond, who returned thanks to Mr and Mrs E. 0. Bond for the function. The gathering • bore testimony to the respect in which Mr and Mrs E. O. Bond were held by a very wide circle of friends. In presenting a key to his son, Mr Bond offered good and sound advice. The ceremony commenced by Mrs E. O. Bond lighting the candles, which were later extinguished by the guest of honour. The usual toasts were honoured. Concert items were rendered by tlie following: —Highland fling,' Master Murray a.nd Miss Dawn Martin, of Ivopane; Miss Heather Martin, song and Irish jig; Mr Ross Bond, solos. The humorous part of the programme was in the hands of Messrs J. Christian and ;«J. Milligan, ably assisted by. Miss Phyllis Bond, in a short humorous sketch, “The Bandit.” Novelty dances were won by Miss A. Bracken (Sanson) and Mr D. Dear, spot waltz, while Miss D. Mikkeken and partner annexed the Monte Carlo dance.
