AOKAUTERE

(From Our Own Correspondent.) AOKKAUTERE. Nov. 21. The weather was fine for the Aokautero Women’s Institute flower show held on Wednesday atternoon and evening. The president (Mrs Gilshnan) extended a welcome to all present, especially to those ladies who had come from Oroua Downs, Kairanga, Linton, Ashhurst, and Palmerston North, and expressed pleusuro that Mesdames Short and Barnicoat, who are members of the executive of the Northern Wellington Federation, were again able to be present. To these ladies and to the judges of tho respective classes tho president expressed thanks on bhalf of the local members. Mrs Short, in opening the snow, spoke highly of the standard of work shown and urged members to remember the universal institute motto, “For Home and Country,” Mrs Barnicoat also spoke briefly on the aims of the institute and complimented the members on their initiative in holding their show annually in spite of the prevailing adverse weather eondtions. The new banner, worked by Mesdames Chowen and Lankshear, was then formally hung in a prominent position over the stage. A pleasant interlude was an elocutionary itom by Mrs D. Scott, to which she had to respond with an encore. In the evening there was a largo attendance, several visitors being present from outlying districts. The hall was later cleared for dancing, the music for which wa3 supplied professionally, with extras by Mr L. Craven. A Monte Curio waltz was won by Mr and Mrs L. Field, and a competition by Mrs T. Teasdale. Later, the president presented the points and special prizes, which were as follow: Points prizes: Flowers, Mrs Lankshoar, vegetables, Miss I. Anderson; cooking, Mrs R.
