annual conference. REMITS FOR DISCUSSION. Numbers of important remits will discussed at the National Dairy Association Conference which opens ui Hastings on Wednesday. The licensing of dairy lactones will be raised by the delegates representing the Mangatoki Dairy Company. The company intends to move a remit urgj,i<r that applications for a license may be° referred to a committee of three persons one of whom shall be appointed by the Minister of Agriculture one bv the applicant for the license, these two to agree upon a chairman, or, failin'’’ agreement, that a magistrate be appointed chairman. Ihe present icgulations prescribe that any application for a license may be referred to a committee of three persons appointed by the Minister. . The Morrinsville Dairy Company intends to move that in view of the possibility of the adoption of a system of quality premiums lor dairy produce the Government be asked to appoint supervising graders with an up-to-date knowledge of Home markets. A reduction in the price of cement to a level in keeping with the purchasing power of the dairy farmers will be advocated by the Mercury Bay Dairy Company. The company- will also urge that the protective duty ot 13s 4d be abolished, thus making cement available at the English price plus freight. . ..,. Skimming at cheese factories will be the subject of a remit moved by tne Kaupokonui Dairy Company, which intends to urge an amendment to tne regulation preventing skimming to allow the manufacture of creamery butter by cheese factories for sale to their suppliers. . . . With a view to companies retaining goodwill for their respective brands, the Westmere Dairy Company intends to advocate that companies be allowed to use their present brands in conjunction with a Dominion brand. A remit will be submitted on behalf ot the Ivokotau Dairy Company to the effect that graders of cheese and butter should not know whose produce they are grading, and that in the event ot a premium being paid on grade the grading should be done where the produce is sold, and that there should be only two grades. . Consideration will also he given by the conference to a report on an insurance scheme for the dairy industry, prepared by a special committee appointed bv last year’s conference at Palmerston North.
