FROZEN MEAT TRADE.

CHILLED BEEF FIRMER. LAMB PRICES ADVANCE. The lamb market is firm with a further advance in prices; consumption continues to improve. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, better trade at increased prices. Beef market: Frozen beef nominal; chilled beef firmer owing to smaller total supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Firmer, but consumption is falling off. Baconer pigs: Market firmer owing to shorter supplies. The above report was received on Saturday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the approximate average prices realised for the week, based on actual transactions of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of meat mentioned, and are for representative parcels of the goods offering during the week, being for business done on the basis of delivered to Smithfield market, and/or ex London stores. Prices for the two previous weeks are also shown :

MARKET STEADY TO FIRM. Compared with last week’s quotations lamb, with the exception of Down, 361 b to 421 b, is -Jil per lb higher; wetliers, G4lb to 721 b, and ewes under 641 b, Jd per lb higher; beef Id per lb higher. Others unchanged. The market is steady to firm. Levin and Co., Ltd., received the above cabled advice on Saturday from their London agents. , . , The Bank of New Zealand (produce department) has received the following advice from its London office as at close of business last week:- —There is a better inquiry for wethers. There is a little better demand for ewes. Lambs aro in fair demand and it is thought that prices will remain steady at present quotations. Smaller supplies of chilled beef have caused prices to harden.
