RUGBY REFEREES.

AIEETING OF ASSOCIATION. A meeting of the Alanawatu Rugby Referees’ Association was held on Friday evening, Air E. AV. Low presiding. Messrs AVaugli and Bailey were elected as new members.

Dr. Ivi ng, tv bo was in attendance, gave a lecture on the accidents that usually occur on the field, particularly stressing the aspect of concussion. He also gave useful advice as to the proper time for a referee io ask a player to withdraw from the field who was obviously too ill to continue. At the conclusion of his address Dr. King was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. It was cecided that the following question be forwarded to the N.Z.R.A.: “Under law 18 no mention is made of the passing of the ball by a player putting an offside man on side. On page 47 of ‘Notes and Billings” mention is made of an offside player being able to intercept a pass, (a) Is this ruling correct? If so under what law? (b) If the ruling is correct, does it mean that the passing of the ball by an opponent puts an offside player onside : that is, should the words ‘or passed’ be inserted to sub-section b of law 18? . “The off side players referred to in (he above are not infringing under tlie ten-yard rule.” The meeting closed following a general discussion on the rules.
