POHANGINA COUNTY. CREDIT BALANCE ANTICIPATED. , Estimates providing for an expenditure of £6613 4s 6d this year, consisting of £1933 19s 6d for administration and general expenses, including plant replacement and loan refunds, and £4679 5s for road and bridge work, were adopted by the Pohangina County Council at its monthly meeting on Saturday. This budgeting anticipated a credit balance of £IOO3 12s 3d on March 31, 1937. The revenue was expected to amount to £7616 16s 9d. including a yield of £2470 from rates on the basis of id in the £, and £SOO in subsidy from the Main Highways Board. A credit balance of £1144 16s 9d had been carried forward from March 31. Rents were expected to produce £195, licenses £l4O, heavy traffic fees £470, dog tax £55, subsidy on general rates £622 and arrears of rates £2O. On the general expenditure side plant replacement was to absorb £l5O, loan refunds £356 13s Id, salaries £705, councillors’ travelling expenses £165 and insurances £BO, other items contributing towards the figure of £1933 19s 6d, wich left a balance of £5682 17s 3d available for the maintenance of roads. Riding estimates were submitted by the engineer as follow :—Awahou, £484 10s; Coal Creek, £734; Mangaone, £772 15s; Mangapikopiko, £621 ; Pohangina. £755; Tamaki, £474; TJmti-j toi, £B3B. Expenditure totalling _ £3316 for, 1936-37 was provided for in the main highway estimates submitted, these, being as follow: Ashhurst-Pohangina (4 miles 20 chains). —£803 (Highways Board £602, j County Council £201). i Ashhurst-Apiti (33 miles). —£1843 . (Highways Board £1382, County Council £461), Apiti-Kimbolton (5 miles). —£404 (Highways Board £303, County Council £101). Feilding-Raumai (5 miles). £266 (Highways Board £2OO, County Council (£66). On the motion of Cr W. Howell, it was decided to strike a general rate of $d in the £ and a hospital rate of 11-16 d in the £ on the rateable capital value of properties.
