OBITUARY.

MR EDWARD FITZSIMONS. Following an operation, the death occurred on Tuesday of Mi' ( Edward Fitzsimons, of Lyndlmrst Street, who was an elder of St. Andrew s Presbyterian Church and wlio was much respected in the city for lus honest and straightforward character. Mr Fitzsimons took an active part in church work and his passing will mean a big loss to St. Andrew’s. Born at Hawera, Mr Fitzsimons had attained the age of 56 years. He was educated in the town of his birth and grew to manhood there. Thirty-one years ago he married Miss Ellen E. Warsnop, of Frasertown, YVairoa, and subsequently resided in various places in the North Island in the course of his employment with the Railway Department. In Palmerston North he was employed by the City Council and also by Mr J. T. J. Heatley. In his younger clays Mr Fitzsimons was a Rugby player and he had the honour of representing Taranaki. Later, he retained a keen interest in Rugby and other forms of sport. He was also a member of the Druids’ Lodge for a long period. Those who survive him are Mrs Fitzsimons; two sons, Messrs L. Fitzsinions (Matamau Street), A. Fitzsimons (Ohaupo, Hamilton) and three daughters, Mrs R. G. Smith (Thompson Street) and Misses Iris and Mary Fitzsimons (also of Palmerston North); also five brothers and three sisters, Messrs 11. Fitzsimons (Linton Street), YV. T. Fitzsimons (Patea), T. Fitzsimons (New Plymouth), J. Fitzsimons (Waitara) and T. J. Fitzsimons (Now York), and Mesdames J. Hartley (Wanganui), YV. Cowling (Palmerston North) and T. YV. Newton (Palmerston North). . The funeral was held at the Ivelvin Grove Cemetery on Thursday, the service being conducted by Rev. J. Hubbard. The pall-hearers (officebearers of St. Andrew’s Church) were Messrs J. B. Gerrand, YV. B. Tennent, A. YYylie. G. Scott, 1 . D. Clark and J. Galland. A short service was also conducted by the Druids’ Lodge. Among the many floral emblems were expressions from the City Council, Mr J. T. J. Heatley, Palmerston North Hospital staff, the office-bearers of St. Andrew’s, the St. Andrew’s Ladies’ I Gujld, the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, and the Druids’ Lodge.
