ENGLISH BATTING AVERAGES VERITY HEADS BOWLERS. RAIN SPOILS PLAY.
(United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright.) Received June 15, 9.30 a.in. LONDON, June 14. After occupying the second position on the list of batting averages last week, C. S. Dempster, the former Wellington batsman, who has made his mark with Leicester, this week heads the table. Verity heads the bowling averages. Details are as follow : BATTEN G—FIRST TWELVE.
COUNTY MATCHES. Rain fell throughout the country, and as a result there was no play in the following county cricket matches:— Surrey v. Essex, Derby v. Yorks, Lancashire v. Middlesex, Worcester v. Hants, Oxford v. Leicester, Cambridge v. Free Foresters, and Notts v. Indians. In the other matches the scores were:— Gloucester made 16 for 1 against Glamorgan. Somersit, playing Kent made 169 (Freeman 6 for 60). Kent made 22 for 1. Sussex, playing Warwick, made 199 for 4 (Cox 66, Cook SO).
