SCHOOL GAMES
KIWITEA AND CHELTENHAM.
On Thursday afternoon a party of about forty children from the Cheltenham School, accompanied by the • head teacher (Air Wood) and several parents, visited the Kiwitea school, j when football and basketball games ; were, played. The weather was so 1 gloriously fine that the day was an I ideal one for the children to be out of doors. This was appreciated the more because the matches had been postponed twice on account of bad I weather. The football match was very keenly j contested, and although the issue was 1 regarded as a foregone conclusion by i the visiting beam, they had to accept j defeat by 12 points to 6. The Kiwii tea hoys were agreeably surprised and | thrilled with their victory, this be- ! ing the first occasion on which the i school has defeated Cheltenham for | many years. However, they played ! a very determined game and their ! victory was a very popular one. The Cheltenham girls were too strong for Kiwitea, the B team bating the Kiwitea team by 4 goals to 2. However, the game was quite an I interesting one. This match was followed by. a friendly game between Cheltenham A and Kiwitea-Chelten-ham B. Following the games, the children were entertained at afternoon tea in the school. The teacher (Air L. H. Joblin) congratulated the children on their games and expressed his pleasure that the Cheltenham children should have visited Kiwitea in such large numbers. The Kiwitea children would look forward to further games next year when the football team would endeavour to repeat its victory. Air and Airs AVood and other adult visitors were entertained by Airs Joblin at the school residence.
