(From Our Own Correspondent.) TE AR9KURA, Sept. 27. Members o£ the Women’s Institute will be interested to read the _ results of the nightdress competition, which are ns follow :—Mrs Wilkins 1, Miss Benge 2, Mrs Bradley 3. The competition was judged by Miss Matthews of Feildimr, and the entries exceeded expectations, all the garments showing excellent needlework. Mrs B. Holmes, of Wanganui, who has been visiting Te. Arakura, has gone for a further holiday 'in Wellington before returning to her home. Mrs P. Hansen is at present spending a holiday in Wellington, where she is the guest of Mrs H. Duncalf.
There was only a small attendance of mombers present at the Drama Circle meeting on Wednesday afternoon. The main business was connected with the recent euchre and dance. After the final payments were passed, there was a satisfactory credit balance of nearly £4. _ The committee are pleased, as they will have some funds in hand now to start next season with. It was suggested that a library be formed, consisting of books of plays, etc., suitable for play-reading and stage presentations. The members were interested to receive the judge’s report and remarks on their recent playetle staged at the Drama Festival in Palmerston North. At the close of the mooting, a short meeting was held in connection with the- children’s fancy dress ball. The following members of the committee were appointed: Mesdames J. J. Hume, W. E. Thomas, J. H. Bennett, G. Firth, D: Johnston, I’. Danielson, S. Barnes, P. O’Regan, Griffin, B. Burnham, Goodman, and Misses Bailey, Carty, and Hansen. The committee are .to meet on Wednesday afternoon. A professional orchostra is' to bo engaged, and it was decided that the ball be held on November I. Full particulars will be advertised later. There was a large attendance of residents at the ball on Wednesday evening when a further address was given on the Douglas Credit System. Mr N. Campbell introduced Colonel Closey. the speaker of the evening. At the conclusion of lus address a number of questions were asked, and answered. It was proposed by Mr J. Whittle, and seconded by Mr F. Bradley lhat a branch of the movement bo formed. The officers were elected President: Mr J. Whittle: secretary Airs Whisker.
