MUSICAL COMEDY
“SALLY” SEASON ENDING. The penultimate performance of the musical comedy “Sally,” by the Palmerston North Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, drew another large audience to the Opera House last evening when, with the experience and confidence gained of past performances, the cast presented tho comedv with sparkling vivacity. There is an abundance of humorous situations, plentifully besprinkled daring the three acts and five scenes with vocal and dance numbers, a combination confident of winning the ready approval of an audience.
The play opens with a brilliant stage “set” and the standard thus produced is maintained throughout, a tribute both to the members of the cast and the producer, Air Harrison Cook, of AVellington, and his associate, Air F. Cousins. Attractive ballet numbers usually difficult of interpretation by amateurs are handled with refreshing confidence, and the chorus work is equally pleasing. Again, last night, All’s AV. AVliitehouse (Alise E. Boon) played the title role admirably, with the requisite restraint or abandon as the occasion demanded, and Air J. D. Alcßrearty contained to exploit his comedy rolo to the utmost. Aliss U. Hancock, Air A. J. Vernon and Mr C. AVatkins, with the other members, were again excellent. Splendid assistance was given by the orchestra, under the direction of Air A. J. Graham, and by the technicians controlling the lighting effects, while the gay frocking was a tribute to foresight and attention to detail. The final performance will be staged to-night.
