WOODVILLE, Sept. 27. Tbo coronation ball was bold at Kumerca last evening, bringing to a close the queen carnival. “The financial success attained in spite of the times, is outstanding and reflects credit on all those responsible and goes to prove that the whole carnival lias been enjoyed by everyone and well organised by those in charge,” said Mr Miller who was M.C. “It must give a great pleasure to those past chairmen and committeemen who are still in the district—Messrs J. I. N. illackic and R. Pattison, and of late date, Mr A. Ramsden —who _ have worked so bard in the past at, considerable cost to themselves to keep the hall going, and more especially to know that their efforts have been appreciated.” The queen (Miss W. Smith) was crowned with due ceremony and the heads of the committee who were presented to the throne were as follow: —Hopelands: Mcsdarnes L. Young, J. O’Neil and B. IT. Norman. Otawhao: Mcsdarnes G. B. DcAtli and A. Ramsden. Kumeroa,: Mcsdaines W. Miller and J. Little. Dancing was then entered upon. The Badminton season in Woodville was brought to a close with a gathering at the Drill Hall. After an adjournment for supper, the president (Mr R. J. Schischka) in reviewing the club’s activities. congratulated the members on the enthusiasm shown throughout the season. He hoped that next season would be no less enjoyable. The trophies were presented to the winners of the following events Men’s singles, Mr W. J. Goodwin; ladies’ singles, Miss L. Noble; men’s doubles, Messrs B. L. Ebbctt and R. J. Schischka; _ ladies’ doubles, Misses A. Davis and B. Smith; mixed doubles, Mr B. L. Ebbctt and Miss L. Noble. A Yankee tournament was held during the evening and resulted in a win for Mr B. L. Ebbctt and Miss N. Off wood. The library committee mot this week, the Mayor (Mr H. P. Horne) presiding. The secretary reported that £5 3s_ 9d had been received as a result of the picture benefit, while the Woodville County Council had made a donation of £5. Other donations had been leeeived from Mrs 11. Nilsson and Mr S. Haigli, also 19 books and a donation from the W.D.F.U. Since April 1, 28, books hud been donated and 37 books purchased. Votes of thanks were passed to the donors. It was reported that the number of subscribers stood at 66. The secretary was instructed to write to Sir Alfred Ransom urging the reinstatement of the subsidy to public libraries, which has been discontinued. . The sympathy of district residents will be extended to Mr J. Rule, of - Ballancc, in the loss of liis wife, who passed away at her residence on Wednesday. Mrs Rule, who was of a cheerful disposition, was a well-known resident of the district and had many friends The interment took place at the Woodville cemetery this afternoon.
